Privacy

Memory for Two is a game for couples. We collect as little as possible. This page explains what happens with data when you visit.

Who we are

Your game stays on your device

Names, body choice, language and your saved progress are stored locally in your browser so you can continue later. Names never leave your device. Of your body choice, only an anonymous marker, woman or man, is shared with dare events, as described below. You remove everything stored locally by clearing the site data in your browser or by restarting the game.

Anonymous game statistics

While you play, the game sends anonymous events to our server: which cards are turned over, which dares are shown, done, skipped or swapped, which level it was, and how far along the game is in percent. For dares we also note whether the player is the woman or the man, so we can find content that suits one of them less. These events contain no name, no account and no ID, and only the day is stored, so we cannot tell which couple played or connect events to each other. We use them to improve the game, for example to remove dares that are skipped a lot. We keep them for up to 12 months. Nothing is sent if your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Cookies

We set a few small cookies that make the game work: one lets the game load its content and images, plus a session cookie. If you open the game through a personal invite link, another cookie remembers that invitation. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

Visitor statistics (GoatCounter)

We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly statistics tool that we host ourselves at stats.midnightduet.com, so the data stays with us. GoatCounter sets no cookies, does not store IP addresses and builds no profiles. It records page views with technical details such as the referring site, browser, screen size and, where available, the country. We keep these statistics for two years. Our basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the game is used.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted at Hetzner in Germany. Like every web server, ours processes your IP address, the time and the requested page when you visit, so the site can be delivered and protected against abuse. If you open a personal invite link, we also store the key used and the IP address of that visit.

Contact form

If you write to us, we store your name, email address and message, plus a one-way hash of your IP address and a short form of your browser identification to fend off spam. We use this only to reply, and we delete messages when we no longer need them.

No sharing, no selling

We do not pass your data on to third parties, and we will never sell data or statistics, whether personal or anonymous. We only use an outside company when it is needed to run the game: our hosting provider Hetzner, which runs the servers this game runs on, and our email provider for messages you send through the contact form. We embed no advertising, no social media plugins and no external fonts. Scripts, images and fonts come from our own server.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of the data we hold about you, and you can complain to a data protection authority. Write to us through the contact page.
